Gunfire Erupts at Howe Park Sends 4 People Shot in Arden-Arcade Sacramento

Sacramento authorities are examining a gun violence incident that erupted on April 18 2026 at Howe Community Park at the moment Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were dispersing a large unsanctioned party of hundreds of attendees.

How It Started

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies initially responded to the Sacramento park shooting 2026 park around 6:30 Saturday evening after receiving reports of individuals who may have had concealed firearms. Not long after, another report was received describing a reported physical confrontation unfolding at the location.

A sheriff's airship scanned the area from the air but reported no active disturbance. Regardless, it was evident that a massive group had come together at the location without official sanction.

When the Shots Rang Out

Responding units started clearing the unauthorized gathering by positioning themselves around the crowd and broadcasting over loudspeakers instructing the assembled crowd to leave immediately. Nearly 15 minutes were allowed for the crowd to leave.

While deputies worked to disperse the gathering that upwards of 20 gunshots rang out. Gunfire caused mass panic. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies immediately began locating gunshot victims.

Four Gunshot Victims

In total, four people were discovered with shooting injuries. The shooting victims — including a female and three males all believed to be in their early to late twenties — were rushed to local Sacramento hospitals. Medical personnel noted that two victims sustained immediate injuries, one victim's injuries were classified as moderate, and one person's injuries were considered minor. In a positive development, no fatalities were reported and all four were stable.

Sacramento Metro Fire also responded and assisted with medical triage the injured prior to hospital transport.

Crime Scene Evidence

The center of the incident appears to have taken place adjacent to the Cottage Way corridor next to the local Home Depot on the 2200 block of Howe Ave. Detectives discovered further ballistic evidence in the form of shell casings throughout the Cottage Way area. Round impacts were observed in the iron perimeter fence surrounding the Home Depot store. These findings indicated that a second shooter had been shooting in a southerly direction from Cottage Way targeting the Home Depot. The nearby Home Depot was temporarily locked down during the incident. Forensic investigators and law enforcement detectives worked tirelessly late into the evening.

Suspect Vehicle Located

Information obtained over scanner radio traffic showed that a suspect Kia was intercepted in Solano County California. Four detainees were stopped and detained. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were traveling to Solano County to return them to Sacramento for investigation. Surveillance footage revealed that there were two gunmen.
